Townhead sits at the heart of a hill farm, once home to a thriving community of over 200 people, renowned as the best arable farm in Peebleshire. Recently, a regenerative approach has seen a huge increase in the flora and fauna and farm tours can be arranged on request. The road up to Townhead is a farm road and so visitors should take care when driving.

Roman Fort

History on your doorstep. No inscriptions have been found, but it is thought that the size of the fort is appropriate to a cohors millaria equitata, the presence of a mounted contingent being implied by the wide streets, and a horseshoe found in 1901.

The fort was built in the late Antonine period, and probably occupied for only a few years. The whole area is steeped in ancient history, with an early Saxon burial chamber being unearthed near Lyne church a few years ago. There were many Iron Age wooden palisade forts on the hill tops around.

    My husband, Mother in law and myself spent three days at this amazing house. Beautifully furnished and decorated, we couldn’t have asked for better accommodation. Equipped with everything we needed. Large dining kitchen, lovely cozy lounge with wood burning fire. A beautiful en-suite twin bedroom downstairs opening to a large decked area with amazing views as far as can be seen. A four poster bedroom upstairs with a gorgeous large dressing room with a walk in shower and deep bath. Stunning views of surrounding hillside from every window. So very peaceful. Loved every minute. We will be back.

    This house is a home you do not ever want to leave. Beautifully designed, with views to the surroundings from every space, it provides comfort and on all levels. Highlights are the superb bathroom with open fireplace, wonderful beds, well equipped kitchen, porch with hottub. We left feeling inspired, rested and in love with the region.
