Queen Mary's Chamber

Mary Queen of Scots, stayed at Neidpath Castle in August 1563, with her husband, Lord Darnley. They were known to have slept on this floor of the castle, and would have enjoyed the hospitality of Lord Hay and his wife for a few days of hunting in the forests around. The castle kitchens would have produced rich and varied banquets in the Great Hall below.

You can explore the whole castle during your stay, taking as much time as you like imagining the lives that have been lived inside Neidpath's extraordinary thick walls over the past 700 years.

When you spend a night in Queen Mary's Chamber, you will experience life as it was in the 16th century, with open log fires, and a sumptuous four poster bed, however there are  few welcome present day comforts, such as hot running water, a fridge, kettle and coffee machine.

You will find fabulous Highland Soap Company products, and little treats around the chamber to make you feel welcome, including fine chocolates made by our local award winning chocolatier, and a complimentary guide book to the castle.

We provide a delicious contintental breakfast for you to enjoy, with smoked salmon, delicious granola, creamy yoghurt, excellent bread and fresh fruit.

Dinner can be served to you in the drawing room, beside your bed chamber, by prior arrangement. Our menu uses local game and foraged wild ingredients, just as Queen Mary would have eaten.
