Mary, Queen of Scots stayed at Neidpath in 1563, as a guest of her friends and supporters, the noble Hay family. The castle kitchens would have been bursting with activity, preparing rich and varied banquets for the royal party to enjoy in the Great Hall. Today, dinner can be served in the drawing room, beside your chamber. Our tempting menu uses local game and freshly foraged ingredients, just as the Queen would have enjoyed all those centuries ago. To welcome you, the ingredients for a delicious continental breakfast, with smoked salmon, granola, creamy yoghurt, excellent bread and fresh fruit, are all provided.

Queen Mary’s Chamber is an exclusive suite within the castle. It’s without question one of the most romantic places to stay in the Scottish Borders. The antique four poster, deep roll top bath and open log fire evoke times gone by. But the comfort and luxury is refreshingly contemporary, from the piping hot water to a coffee machine and fridge. You’ll also find lots of little treats around the chamber to pamper you and make you feel welcome, including a fabulous selection of natural skincare products from the Highland Soap Company, fine chocolates, and a complimentary guide book to the castle.
