Peebles Food Guide: Our Local Favourites from Market Stalls to Artisan Shops

Peebles might be a fairly small town, but it punches well above its weight when it comes to food and drink.

Whether you're exploring the high street or staying nearby at the castle, there's no shortage of local gems offering everything from first rate Fish, Game, Rare Breed Pork, Cheese and award-winning chocolates.

Here's our round-up of favourite spots to experience some of the best food in Peebles.

Peebles Farmers Market – Every Saturday

A weekly highlight for locals and visitors alike, the Peebles Farmers Market is a celebration of local produce. Held every Saturday, it’s a brilliant place to discover seasonal foods, small-batch producers, and regional delicacies.

We especially love Tweed Valley Venison, who not only bring top-quality game and venison to the market, but also cater private dining experiences at the castle for guests staying in Queen Mary’s Chamber. Their meats are sustainably sourced from the surrounding Tweed Valley and full of rich, wild flavour.

Tweed Trotters

A true taste of the Neidpath Estate, Tweed Trotters specialises in woodland-reared, rare breed pork. The pigs are raised in the estate’s woods, roaming freely and living naturally - resulting in deeply flavourful, succulent meat.

You can order online via Tweed Trotters' website, and we're currently exploring ways to offer their delicious produce as an optional ‘extra’ for Neidpath guests.

Cocoa Black

You can’t talk about food in Peebles without mentioning Cocoa Black. Founded by world-renowned chocolatier Ruth Hinks, this award-winning chocolate boutique and café is a must-visit. People travel from all over the UK to taste Ruth’s creations - so whether you're in for a single truffle or an indulgent hot chocolate, you're in for a treat. Visit their website

The Superstore

Tucked away on the high street, The Superstore is a small but mighty health food shop packed with carefully chosen products.
You’ll find artisan cheeses from Ian Mellis, eco-conscious household goods, fresh vegan offerings, and even a great selection of sauerkraut. It's a perfect stop for anyone seeking organic, local, or specialty foods. View their Facebook page.

Milne & Pickles

A cosy spot with a curated selection of cheese and wine, Milne & Pickles is both a shop and a little tasting haven. With a few tables inside, you can sit down and enjoy a glass of something special alongside one of their excellent cheese plates. View their Facebook page.

Villeneuve Wines

If you’re after wine, look no further than Villeneuve Wines. This independent wine shop has a superb selection from across the world, and the team are always happy to help you find the perfect bottle. We're big fans, and even have an account with them for the castle. You can browse their offerings online at villeneuvewines.com.

Forsyths the Butcher

A long-standing favourite, Forsyths is a top-quality local butcher known for both their traditional cuts and friendly service. You can pop into the shop or place an order online for convenience. A reliable source for everything from Sunday roasts to BBQ-ready steaks. Visit their site here.

Ross Dougal Fishmonger

Located right on the high street, Ross Dougal is the go-to for fresh, daily fish and seafood. While there's no website, you can call to place special orders - a great tip if you're planning a seafood dinner or want to try something a little different. Visit their Facebook page

The Milkman

New on the scene but already a favourite, The Milkman brings third-wave coffee culture to Peebles. With excellent coffee, beautiful cakes, and a relaxed vibe, it's a stylish place to start your day - or take a mid-afternoon break. Check out The Milkman here.

Peebles - A Beautiful place to Eat (& Stay)
